A man died yesterday at a site in Austria after he was crushed by the boom of his loader crane.
The incident occurred in the small town of Passail, 30 kilometres northeast of Graz in Styria. The crane operator was lifting pallets of tiles onto the single home building site when his vehicle overturned. The boom came down onto a 48-year-old labourer, trapping him until he was rescued by fire fighters. On the way to the hospital he succumbed to his injuries.
It looks as though the incident was related to the outrigger set up being insufficient for the load and radius, although this has not been confirmed.
