Marshall Man Killed in Crane Accident

Wayne Mead - Backed Over by Crane 2011Authorities say a man working on a creek restoration project at a park in Ann Arbor was killed when another member of his crew backed over him with a crane.

Washtenaw County sheriff’s spokesman Derrick Jackson says the accident happened about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday at County Farm Park. A contracting crew is engaged in restoration work on Malletts Creek in the park.

Jackson says a 57-year-old man from Marshall was working on foot when the crane operator apparently didn’t see him and backed over him. Jackson says the injured man died at a hospital.

The victim was identified on Wednesday as 57-year-old Wayne G. Mead.

Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services will handle arrangements. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Marshall.

The funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
