Man Dies After Mobile Crane Crash

A MAN died after the 15-tonne mobile crane he was driving on the D’Aguilar Highway crashed near Wamuran this morning.

The mobile crane had just passed Gamgee Rd intersection when it lost control on a left hand bend and rolled about 10.30am.

The driver, a 58-year-old man from Kallangur, died at the scene.

Earlier reports that the driver of the vehicle was the sole occupant were incorrect.

A 38-year-old Deception Bay man who was a passenger was seriously injured and taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

Police diverted traffic onto either Gamgee Rd or Station Rd in the Wamuran area when the crane initially blocked the highway in both directions.

The highway was reopened about 2.30pm.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
