Workers Injured in Kanagawa Crane Accident

Boom Buckles & Injures Two in Japan 2011Two workers at a company in Kanagawa Prefecture were injured when the 60-meter-long arm of a crane on the premises broke and fell, police said.

The accident occurred on the grounds of adhesive manufacturer ThreeBond Polymer Co. in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, at about 8:30 a.m. on May 10. The two workers, aged 23 and 37, were reportedly both conscious after the accident and their injuries were not life-threatening.

Kanagawa Prefectural Police said the crane’s arm knocked down a power pole outside the premises, severing some power lines. Power to surrounding homes was cut, and Tokyo Electric Power Co. is working to restore the damage.

At the time of the accident, the crane was reportedly moving steel material weighing 2.5 tons.
