The Queensland Ambulance Service says a 24-year-old man died at Cloncurry yesterday on premises near Bell Street.
Police say the victim was standing near the crane at the time of the accident.
Superintendent Ray Pringle says the man was helping to move large steel containers at the premises in Cloncurry yesterday morning when a crane hit powerlines.
“The mobile crane has actually touched overhead powerlines, which has caused the death of a man that was walking along beside the steel container,” he said.
“These are tragic circumstances for a community like Cloncurry.”
The forensic crash unit is assisting with Workplace Health and Safety investigators and electrical safety investigators to prepare a report for the coroner.
