A Wellington man was taken to hospital by helicopter this morning after being hit by a crane boom while unloading a truck.
The Westpac rescue helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics on board, responded to the incident near the Paraparaumu landfill about 9.15am this morning.
“We understand that the injured man was assisting the unloading of a truck when it’s crane became jammed,” said helicopter crewman Colin Larsen. “As he went to investigate further the crane boom freed itself, striking him in the head”.
After the accident the man, 22, was treated for head injuries by the paramedics. He was then transferred to the helicopter and taken to the Wellington Hospital emergency department, where he is undergoing further assessment and treatment for his injuries.
