A power outage affected an area in Munoz and parts of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City when a crane tripped several high tension wires on an electric post before dawn on Thursday.
Initial investigation showed that the incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. in front of the Jackman Plaza, a building under construction along EDSA.
A witness told personnel from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) that the crane was hauling some construction materials loaded into a truck, when the crane’s cables snapped.
The crane spun around for awhile before falling down on the high tension wires, causing the power interruption.
Aside from the damage caused to the high tension wires and cement post, a nearby bowling alley was also partly damaged, as some of the debris fell on top of its roof, caving it in.
Meanwhile, Meralco spokesperson Dina Lomotan assured the public, especially those affected by the incident that they have already sent a team to the area to ensure that power is restored as soon as possible.
Residents of the area hope though that those supervising the construction would install safety nets to prevent falling debris from endangering nearby establishments and the people in the area.
