A female crane operator fell more than 300ft from the top of a 33-storey building – and survived. She escaped with broken bones after the cab she was in plummeted to the ground in Leshan, Sichuan province in south-west China. The worker, who has not been named was pulled from the mangled wreckage by firefighters as stunned bystanders looked on.
Amazingly, after the 30-minute effort to free her, the victim had escaped with no life-threatening injuries. It appears that the accident was triggered by construction workers trying to raise the height of the crane. That caused it to lean precariously and the control cab became detached.
The woman was among five workers on top of the crane. Two are said to have died when it collapse on July 5 and the other two survived by climbing down the mast. The impact of the fall appeared to have caused a large crater in the ground and after the incident the top of the crane could be seen dangling in the air next to the derelict building.
