An Erickson Air-Crane helicopter crashed Friday in Malaysia, killing the pilot and injuring the co-pilot.
Erickson spokeswoman Tracy Erickson did not identify the deceased pilot or the co-pilot, nor did she say where they were from.
“There should be more information at a later date,” she said late Friday when contacted by phone.
Erickson manufactures helicopters in Central Point. The company moved its headquarters to Portland last year.
Erickson has been involved in logging operations in Malaysia for several decades.
The most recent fatal crash involving an Erickson aircraft was in July 2005. A Rogue River man was killed in a crash at Fiumicino Airport in Rome during takeoff.
An Eagle Point resident and two others on board were injured. Marty Erickson, 49, a mechanic died in the crash. Fellow mechanic, Troy Niemeyer, 30, of Eagle Point received minor injuries.
More recently, in October 2006, two Erickson pilots escaped serious injury when their S-64E Aircrane Helitanker crash-landed while fighting a fire in California’s Ventura County.
