Wellington, New Zealand
A mobile crane has toppled into an apartment building on Lorne St in Wellington.
Witness Nick Torea said he was walking up Lorne St after his lunch break about 12.30pm and saw the back end of the mobile crane teetering on an angle of about 45 degrees.
He heard workers on the site yelling ”stop, stop”, before the crane toppled forward, landing on a neighbouring apartment building.
Fire Service senior station officer James Gray said the crane operator was being treated for minor injuries.
“It appears a mobile crane was shifting a load of steel and has ended up tipping over,” he said.
Damage to the apartments was minimal.
Emergency services and Labour Department inspectors are on the scene.
Lorne St, which runs between Tory St and Cambridge Tce, has been closed to traffic and is expected to re-open this evening.
