Trees Cause Crane Collapse Netherlands 2010 (1)An All Terrain crane belonging to Veghel based crane and transport company Gaffert, tipped over in the town of Hintham, the Netherlands, yesterday, while helping remove 11 poplar trees.

The cause of the accident has been blamed on the tree being heavier than expected, some local reports claim it was thought to be four tonnes but was closer to seven tonnes. However the crane can handle seven tonnes at up to 14 metres on full boom when the outriggers are fully extended so…

Given that the crane tipped over backwards it suggests something else, such as the sudden dropping of the load causing a large recoil?

it also looks as though there is also an issue in that the front outriggers were only partially extended on both sides The Liebherr LTM1060 has load charts for partially extended outriggers.

There were no injuries and the operator escaped unhurt, two further cranes were called in last night to rescue the fallen crane.
