There was a close call in Redding Monday afternoon, when a 100-foot crane collapsed near a busy road, blocking the Cypress Avenue bridge. The accident happened 1:45 Monday afternoon, forcing the closure of Cypress Avenue from Athens to Hartnell. It blocked both lanes of the Cypress Avenue bridge but no one was hurt.
The toppled crane broke a sewage line dumping three to five gallons of sewage a minute into the Sacramento River. Crews diverted the sewage flow to reduce the amount spilled into the river. The bridge reopened just after 8pm.
