A GYMPIE industrial painter and blaster may not feel lucky this morning, but the industrial accident he suffered yesterday (Wednesday) could have been much worse.
The man, an employee of Masters Engineering Contractors Pty Ltd, in Smith Street, was taken to Nambour Hospital yesterday after part of his foot was run over by the tyre of a mobile crane.
The firm’s managing director Tony Rendell said the man suffered two seriously broken bones in his foot.
“They’re thinking he had a compound fracture and that’s the biggest concern. The bone didn’t protrude through the skin, but it seems there is damaged tissue inside.”
Mr Rendell said the firm would be preparing a full report on the incident and action was in place to prepare a follow-up action plan to minimise the chances anything similar occurring again.
“He’s okay in that he’s talking, but we don’t know the full extent of the injury and he’ll obviously need time off to recover,” he said.
This is the second reported heavy machinery blunder in Gympie this week.
