A worker was killed when a crane toppled onto him on the Throgs Neck Bridge in Queens at 10:30 AM.
The electrical worker was pinned under the boom of the crane on the Queens side of the span. Witnesses say that the worker fell in-between the crane, and was crushed. Rescuers frantically attempted to pull out the worker from under the crane.
Northbound lanes were closed for the emergency activity.
MTA, bridge, and tunnel officials haven’t confirmed any details about the cause of the incident, or information about the worker. Officials say that the investigation is on-going.
The bridge, which connects Queens and the Bronx, was the site of July 10 fire that led officials to close a northbound lane and ban trucks for several weeks.
The lane reopened on Aug. 10, but further repair and construction work was to last into the fall.
