EIGHT people suffered injuries of varying severity after a crane fell on them during a meeting chaired by Spain’s president.
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was giving an electoral presentation at the Príncipe de Asturias sports pavilion in Murcia yesterday evening.
As members of the public were filing into the building at around 19.15hrs, a crane installed just outside the building fell, causing multiple cuts and bruises to eight of the people in attendance.
They have been identified by their initials only and are mainly aged between 57 and 60, together with a 27-year-old and another patient of 78.Two were treated at the scene, and the remaining victims were taken to the Morales Meseguer hospital.
Sources from the hospital confirmed all six were discharged last night.
Zapatero was giving electoral speeches along with socialist secretary Pedro Saura, and Murcia’s candidate for the European Parliament, Gloria Martín.
