Police say a man killed in an accident on a fishing vessel off southern Tasmania this morning was crushed to death when a crane fell on him.
The 19 year old Huon Valley man was working for Huon Aquaculture on the fishing barge, the Perseverance, about 800 metres offshore at Surveyors Bay, near Dover.
Police say the crew was operating a crane, which fell on the teenager, causing massive chest injuries.
A spokesman for Huon Aquaculture says it was a tragic accident and counsellors will be made available to staff as they’re needed.
Workplace Standards, police forensics officers and the CIB are all investigating.
A report will also be prepared for the Coroner.
