An industrial accident at Wyoming Fabrication and Machine off of Highway 150 South claimed the life of an Evanston man Monday afternoon.
John Winfield, 44, owner of the metal fabrication shop, died after a crane fell on him, a 9-11 caller said.
Uinta County Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Saprony said dispatch received a call from an employee at around 2 p.m. Monday stating a “crane had fallen on the boss.”
A county ambulance and extrication team was dispatched to the scene, but deputies determined after arrival that Winfield “had already passed away,” Saprony said.
Saprony said any time an industrial accident of this nature occurs, OSHA is immediately contacted and will conduct their own investigation.
“At this point all we know is that this was a tragic accident,” Saprony said. “It’s very unfortunate — This is a well-known and well-liked family in Evanston.”
