A large crane fell off the Marsha Sharp Freeway at the start of the lunch hour today, causing the 50-foot boom to crash across the freeway.
The operator jumped off the crane just before it fell to the roadway below. There were no reported injuries, and no cars were hit in the construction accident.
Traffic was blocked along the westbound lanes from Avenue Q to about Sherman Avenue, with officials directing traffic at Avenue Q. The crane fell near Avenue S.
Neighbors said they felt the ground shake and a large crashing sound when the crane fell, many still standing outside their homes to watch hours after the wreck.
