Man Killed in Mine Accident

New South Wales, Australia

Police say the accident happened at the Kayuga mine when a trailer, which was being lifted by a crane, fell and hit a rigger on the head.

The owners of the mine, Anglo Coal, have issued a statement expressing their sympathy to the man’s family.

NSW police spokesman Senior Constable Tony Tamplin says the accident happened as a crane attempted to lift a trailer on the mine site.

“Exactly what happened is uncertain from there – either the chain has broken or it’s slipped off the trailer,” he said.
