Normal work at the Chennai Container Terminal, operated by P&O Ports, was badly affected during the week following a fatal accident on October 13. Senior port officials said operations inside the port are expected to return to normal as of October 25.
Due to the accident, a quay crane (QC3) underwent repairs and would be commissioned in a couple of days. The port users, meanwhile, complained that the situation at the terminal was deteriorating ever since the QC3 went out of order following the accident.
According to a senior port official, post-accident, all equipment are being re-evaluated for additional safety interlock and mechanical stops.
