Springfield, Missouri Worker crushed by falling machine. A 48-year-old man was killed Friday, January 6, 2001, when a machine fell from a crane and landed on him, officials said.
The man, whose identity was not released, was guiding the crane operator while moving an air circulation unit when the straps securing the machine apparently broke. The unit fell and pinned the man, Springfield police officer Kirk Manlove said.
The victim was from the state of Nevada and was working for Cox Air Systems of Belton, a contractor installing equipment on the roof of a building in Partnership Industrial Park, officials said.
Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident, Manlove said.
