Crane Topples

10/25/00

Juneau, Alaska

Crane Topples at Auke Bay dock.

A crane boom broke and fell onto to a dock at the Dehart’s Marina this morning.

The 80-foot boom punched a hole in the wooden pier that runs from the beach out to the fuel dock.

No one one injured.

There are fuel lines running from onshore tanks across the pier out to Dehart’s fuel dock. The Coast Guard has surrounded the pier with absorbent booms. No fuel has been seen in the water. Investigators are still assessing the damage to the pier and determining why the crane’s boom broke. The crane is being used as part of the Harbor Enhancement Project.
