10/17/2000 Update: Burned employee undergoes surgery.
Charlie Brown, a Conway Corp. employee who was burned last week while working on an electrical line, underwent surgery today at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital burn unit.
The hospital reported his condition as serious at 9 a.m. Brown was severely burned on his back and arms while doing line work at 3715 Prince Street about 2:15 p.m. Friday.
Brown was working with two crews at the Prince Street site to install a new circuit when the accident occurred. He was up in a bucket truck working on a neutral line, according to Conway Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Arnold, when the boom holding the bucket apparently came in contact with a live wire.
The crew members took first-aid measures as soon as they got Brown to the ground.
“The guys did a great job,” Arnold said. “I’m very proud of the way their training took hold.”
Brown was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center and was transferred by ambulance to Children’s Hospital.
Arnold said an investigation of the accident has begun.
“We’re talking to everybody we can,” he said. He expects the investigation to take about two days. “We’ll take as much time as we need to talk to the guys.”
Conway Corp. has set up a telephone line where information on Brown’s condition may be obtained. The number is 450-6077.
