Two employees of a subcontractor for Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative Inc., struck an overhead line with the boom of their truck, electrocuting one man and seriously burning another, the St. Mary’s County sheriff’s office said yesterday.
The two men, employees of C.W. Wright Construction Co., were working on power lines along Hurry Road in Chaptico at 10:39 a.m. Police have not released the name of the dead man pending notification of relatives.
The injured man, Jason Evans, 26, of Ridgeley, W.Va., was flown to the Washington Hospital Center burn unit, where he was listed in critical condition late yesterday, a hospital spokesman said.
A SMECO spokesman said yesterday that the company is trying to piece together what occurred, but that power was restored by late afternoon to all 3,000 homes affected by the accident.
This is the 20th power line accident report we’ve received this year and the second one this month. There were two reported in September too.
