35 Ton Lorrain Crane Tipped Over

Beulah, North Dakota

A 35 ton Lorain crane tipped over at the Dakota Gasification Plant at Beulah, North Dakota.

The operator was driving with a piece of fiberglass ductwork hanging from the hook.  No outriggers were out and about 40 feet of boom was extended. The load was not tied off to keep from swinging around. The operator came to a small side slope and continued on. The ductwork swung to the low side and took the crane over. No one was hurt, just a little shook up. The funny thing about it, the company requires a license to operate a forklift, but not to operate a crane.
