Gantry Crane operator dies in shipping dock accident.
An employee of Georgia Ports Authority Ocean Terminal died after an accident with a gantry crane at 3:25 p.m. Saturday. The unidentified man was using the crane to unload lumber from a bulk cargo ship when the crane turned over. He was trapped inside the cab of the crane for an unspecified amount of time.
The man was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center by a Life Star Helicopter at 4:50 p.m. and died later Saturday night. The company’s security force is investigating the incident.
The identification of the victim was unavailable at press time Saturday night, pending notification of his family.
