The crane was maneuvering into postion to setup for a lift (with counterweight on deck) when the road collapsed beneath it causing it to slide. The crane was actually in the centre of the road at the time, with the left hand tyres running over the timber under the poles on the right of the picture.
This was not driver error from running off the road – the road was just not able to support the weight of the crane. As the crane started to slide and lean over the slew brake was unable to hold the slew. A 50 ton crane and a heavy duty recovery truck was used to upright the crane with surprisingly almost no damage being done.
