James “Pop” Harvey was helping unload a barge at the port when approximately 3,000 pounds of unprocessed rubber fell on and killed him. Longshoremen said at the time that the incident apparently occurred because one of the four hooks used in lifting the three metal baskets of rubber by crane was not secured.
