Virginia State Police and crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation had to shut down bothsouthbound travel lanes and direct traffic for about an hour Monday afternoon after an accident on U.S. 29 near Whittles.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. when David Young, owner of David Young Construction in Gretna, lost control of the crane truck he was driving and ran off the right side of the highway while heading south, said State Trooper T.S. Bullington.
The right southbound lane was shut down for about an hour. Police also had to shut down both southbound lanes so workers could attach the vehicle to a tow-truck.Southbound traffic, except for tractor-trailers, was rerouted to Andrew Road.
No one was injured in the accident. Young was charged with reckless driving.
