A crane operator working on a Tennessee Department of Transportation bridge repair project this morning on the Mississippi River Bridge on I-155 in Dyer County was injured this morning when the crane he was operating tipped over the side of the bridge.
According to Tennessee Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Julie Oakes, the operator was able to jump from the cab of the crane, landing on the bridge itself. He sustained injuries and was taken by helicopter to a Memphis hospital. There is no report on the status of his injuries at this time and the name of the employee has not been yet released.
The crane landed upside down in the field below westbound lane of the bridge.
The prime contractor on the project was VHP Enterprises, Inc. of Florida. VHP rented the equipment from Ford Construction of Dyersburg, who provided the operator, as well.
