Two Men Hurt in Accident at Nucor

Two contractors were injured Wednesday afternoon at Nucor Steel Arkansas, according to plant manager Dave Chase.

The men are employees of Systems Contracting Corp. and were identified as Michael Evans, 44, of Blytheville and Marty Kilman, 36, of Bald Knob. Both men were airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Evans sustained head injuries, while Kilman’s injuries appeared to be less serious.

According to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department, an overhead crane collided with a scissor lift in the shipping and receiving area of the plant. The men, who were in the scissor lift, were thrown to the concrete floor.

Trained first responders and emergency medical technicians who work at Nucor and paramedics from Blytheville provided treatment to the men before they were airlifted to the Med.

Evans is listed in serious but stable condition at the Med. Kilman was treated and released.

Chase added that a detailed investigation into the accident is ongoing by both Nucor and Systems Contracting.
