North Queensland, Australia
Another crane related death in Australia.
It happened yesterday morning at a Thiess construction site at the Lavarack Army Barracks in Townsville, North Queensland. The deceased (Nick Nicholas) was an employee of a local rigging subcontractor, S&M Rigging, who is responsible for erecting precast concrete panels forming the structural elements of the new accommodation units. He was located in the man-box of a “cherry picker” when four previously erected and propped up panels collapsed, falling against the machine and causing his death. No other persons were injured.
A full investigation into the incident is now underway.
